Steps of IVF

  1. Consultation
  2. Evaluation of both the partners with blood test for both, ultrasound of the female and semen analysis of the male.
  3. Process of IVF starts on Day 2 of the cycle after ultrasound hormonal injections are started, which can be taken at home or near home for next 5 days. Then patient is called to the clinic after Day5/Day6 of injection. Followed by scan (USG) to monitor the growth of follicles (which contains Egg). After which as per the clinician, dose of injection is decided.
  4. The process lasts for 10-12 days with injections and 4-5 visits to the clinic.
  5. Once the follicle size reaches 18-22mm trigger injection is given which is the last injection of the IVF programme.
  6. 36 hours after the trigger injection, OPU (ovum pickup) is scheduled.
  7. In this procedure through the transvaginal ultrasound OPU (egg collection) is done, under short anaesthesia without any cut or suture on the body. Patient is discharged on the same day.
  8. Husband’s semen is collected on the same day (after abstinence for 2-3 day), also a backup sample is frozen before IVF.
  9. The eggs collected from the ovary of the woman and sperm from the man are then fertilized in the IVF lab to form embryos.
  10. After 3 days or 5 days the resultant embryo is transferred back into the uterine cavity.
  11. 14 days after the transfer, a blood test called Beta HCG is done to check for the pregnancy.
